“John is helpful, empathetic, and has worked with me to put structure on my chaotic creative self employment that has led to an uptick in my general happiness” – Paul, London
What is life coaching?
Life coaching is a series of conversations to help you get from where you are now to where you want to be. It is confidential, non-judgemental and collaborative between client and coach.
What are the benefits?
Coaching can help you look at any area of your life where you want change: both personal and professional. For example, that may be looking at goals you’d like to set, what resources you have to achieve them, any negative thoughts or beliefs holding you back, how you can become better organised or improve your motivation.
Life coaches don’t tell you what to do. Instead, they ask questions to help you uncover the answers that are right for you.
Where does the coaching take place?
Coaching takes place over video calls, so you can be calling from anywhere in the world. You need to be sitting somewhere quiet and private where you can think and speak without being overheard.
Zoom and Whatsapp video calls seems to be the most popular, but we can use any video conferencing software you prefer.
Who sets the agenda?
You decide what we talk about, when and for how long. Calls are usually an hour long. Most clients choose weekly sessions, but they are booked whenever is best to fit in with your needs.
John’s normal working hours are Monday to Friday from 10am to 7pm (UK time), with the possibility of evenings/ weekends if needed.
What if I’m also seeing a therapist or counsellor?
Coaching is not a substitute for counselling, mental health care or substance abuse treatment. There can be extra challenges if you’re seeing a life coach and receiving counselling at the same time.
You will need to inform your coach and any medical or therapeutic practitioners if you intend to work with them both together. There are some organisations listed here offering support for mental health and substance misuse.
How much does it cost?
The first session is to get to know one another and is free. After that sessions are £40 per call to be paid via Paypal in advance. Sessions can be cancelled up to 24 hours notice with no charge - after that the full fee is payable.
What personal information is stored?
John will need to store your phone number or email electronically to set up the calls. He will also ask if he can take hand-written notes during the calls without using your name. Any email correspondence is deleted after sending. At any stage you can request for your information to be removed.
John won't divulge to anyone that you are being coached or anything you've shared. If you meet socially he won't make reference to your calls. (He's happy for you to tell other people if you want to make a referral.)
